Baby In Back™ and Child In Back™ signs were conceived by Kim Mappes, a mom and inventor from Madison, Wisconsin. After seeing a heartbreaking television program about an infant who died after being forgotten in his father's car, she was inspired to create an effective, yet affordable, visual reminder of children riding in the back seat. In developing her idea of the dashboard sign, Kim also realized the importance of physical action on the part of the driver. By turning the frame around when the child is no longer in the car, the individual utilizes the key elements of the design: both passive and active functionality.
Kim and her husband Robb live in Stoughton, Wisconsin, and are the proud parents of Gracelyn, 4, Logan, 2, and Carson, 7 months.
